Sedation Dentistry
Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Payson, Arizona
Many people avoid necessary preventive dental care due to fear or anxiety of coming to the dentist. At Winterholler Dentistry we understand this and we provide sedation for both restorative and cosmetic dentistry procedures. This can greatly reduce you worry and help you be calm and confident.
Drs. Chris and Patrice Winterholler are active members of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS). This organization provides ongoing continuing education which keeps us up-to-date with the most effective and safe ways to give oral sedation. With sedation Dentistry in our pleasant and comfortable office, you can complete all the dentistry that you need or desire.
Here is How Sedation Dentistry Works
- Make an appointment with Dr. Chris or Dr. Patrice Winterholler. The first phone call is often the most difficult. You may at first feel anxious or nervous, but our team members Devon and Ashley will set you at ease right away.
- At your first visit we will begin getting to get to know you and learning about your dental health needs. We can discuss your wants, concerns, and goals. If you feel comfortable we will then do a full exam and Digital X-rays. We could also review medical history forms and go over consent forms at this visit.
- If you go ahead and make your second appointment, we will give you a mild sedative to take the night before. It will give you a good night’s sleep so that you will wake up on the day of your visit feeling relaxed and confident.
- You will need someone to drive you to Winterholler Dentistry because you will also need a ride home. When you arrive, we will give you another medication to maintain your sense of calm and comfort. Throughout your procedure we will monitor you with equipment that tracks your vital signs. This will ensure your safety.
- Before your companion takes you home, we will give you some written post-treatment instructions to facilitate your full recovery. We will also provide any necessary medications to continue your comfort through the next day or two.
- The next day you can go back to work or your normal activities. Most people feel no discomfort or after-effects. The sedatives we use have the effect of reducing your memory of any dental work so you may be able to also forget about any previous bad dental experiences which might have caused your dentistry anxiety.
As a patient at Winterholler Dentistry there is no need to have a fear of coming to the dentist. Drs. Patrice and Chris Winterholler and their staff are here to ensure that you receive the best-quality dental care possible.
One advantage of having sedation dentistry is that we may be able to do more than one procedure in the same visit. So, for example, you may be able to have both a new crown and a tooth-colored filling, or both a dental bonding procedure and CEREC porcelain veneers.
The sooner dental problems are detected, the quicker and easier it is to resolve them. Please call or email our cosmetic dentistry office today for a personal consultation. You will be so glad afterwards that you broke through your anxiety and had the necessary dental work done.
