Cosmetic Dentists Can Correct All Dental Issues
Over the course of your lifetime, you may experience a variety of dental issues that need to be fixed. Most people would turn to a general dentist for treatment. However, cosmetic dentists can treat these dental issues with the final result being a beautiful, healthy smile.
A few of the dental issues that can be treated with cosmetic dentistry are:
- Misaligned upper and lower jaws
- Crooked and discolored teeth
- Smiles with cracks, chips, cavities, and gaps
- Jaws with underbites and overbites
- Ill proportioned teeth
- Gums suffering from gingivitis or periodontal disease
- Crowded teeth
- Weak and missing teeth
- Severe pain in the upper or lower jaw
- Sensitive teeth
- Oral cancer
Any of these dental issues will cause you discomfort with eating and speaking. The function of both your upper and lower jaws may be compromised if these issues are not treated right away. Questions to Ask During Your Cosmetic Dentistry Consultation
You will want to schedule a cosmetic dentistry consultation to discuss your dental issues and the options for treatment. Our Phoenix cosmetic dentists will answer all of your questions during your consultation. You may want to make a list of questions before your appointment to make sure you do not forget to ask them all.
A couple of the questions you will want to ask are:
What cosmetic dentistry treatments should I have?
Depending on your personal dental issues, Dr. Chris Winterholler and Dr. Patrice Winterholler will suggest the best treatment options for your needs. There are some treatment options that are better suited for certain people. A treatment that is perfect for one person may not be right for another. Your treatment plan will be custom made to suit your needs.
Do you have before and after cosmetic dentistry photos?
You will want to see before and after photos of cosmetic dentistry patients to see the level of care and skill that our cosmetic dentists offer. You will also be able to see how patients with similar dental issues look after their treatments. This will help give you an idea as to how your treatments will correct your smile.

The Ins and Outs of Cosmetic Dentistry
Many people have heard of cosmetic dentistry, but many do not know what this specified field is all about. Patients see a general dentist for routine professional cleaning and the fixing of teeth to eliminate pain or discomfort. Cosmetic dentistry differs from general dentistry because it focuses on the appearance of the teeth.
But, what is cosmetic dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry combines the improvement of health that general dentistry offers with the talent of artistry to create a beautiful smile.
Cosmetic dentists require special training after they study in the field of general dentistry. Skilled cosmetic dentists correct dental issues to improve the aesthetic qualities of smiles while paying close attention to improving the function of the teeth and jaws. They use their general and cosmetic dentistry knowledge to give their patients a full range of dental treatments.
Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments
Cosmetic dentistry treats a large range of dental issues such as misaligned teeth or damaged teeth. The treatments offered are designed to enhance the appearance of a smile, but they also correct the dental issues so they will not become worse.
The cosmetic dentistry treatments include:
- Porcelain Veneers
- Dental Crowns
- Inlays and Onlays
- Tooth Whitening
- Invisalign
- Tooth Recontouring
- Dental Implants
- Full Mouth Reconstruction

The Many Advantages of Dental Implants
Choosing to replace your teeth with dental implants provides you with several advantages over the other tooth replacement options. The advantages of dental implants are:
The tooth root is replaced.
With most tooth replacement options, only the tooth is replaced leaving an empty space in the jawbone. The empty space where root used to be causes multiple dental problems including:
The gums and jawbone shrink
The teeth on either side of the replacement tooth shift
Damage to the neighboring teeth and roots is probable
Dental implants replace the tooth's root to avoid additional dental issues.
The replacement tooth is permanent.
Unlike dentures or dental bridges, dental implants are permanent and do not require removal for eating. Dentures and bridges also have the possibility of shifting and not fitting well over time. Dental implants do not shift, become loose, or change in how they fit.
The dental implant acts and functions as a natural tooth root.
The implant is strong, durable, and long lasting. You care for the implant as you would your natural teeth. There is no fear of damaging the implant or the dental crown because they mimic the functionality of your other teeth. You can bite down on them with the same amount of pressure as the rest of your teeth and they will not be damaged.
If you are interested in learning more about the advantages of dental implants and live in the Phoenix and Scottsdale area, please contact our cosmetic dentistry office today.

The Three Types of Dental Implants
Dental implants come in three types:
Root form dental implant
Plate form dental implant
Subperiosteal dental implant
About the Root Form Dental Implant
The root form implant is the most common type of dental implant. It matches your tooth's root more closely than the other two types. Like the other types, it can be used to replace one or more teeth. The root form implant is placed directly into your jawbone to replace your missing tooth's root.
About the Plate Form Dental Implant
The plate form dental implant is used when the jawbone is too thin for the placement of a root form implant. Usually, bone grafting is performed to create a thicker jawbone for a root form implant, but there are times when bone grafting cannot be done.
The plate form implant is long and narrow. It is placed in the jawbone to act as a replacement tooth's root.
Abut the Subperiosteal Dental Implant
The subperiosteal implant is used when the jawbone cannot securely hold the root form or plate form dental implants. This implant is placed on top of the jawbone and under the gum tissue. It is a long metal plate that is sturdy enough to hold dental crowns for tooth replacement.
All three dental implant types are strong, durable, and functional. They act like your natural teeth's roots and can withstand the same amount of pressure when you chew and speak.
